Towns with lower recorded crime rates

Recorded incidents per 1,000 residents, with population shown alongside each rate.

July 2025 to June 2026 · 12 months · 1,163 eligible towns

How to read this comparison

This includes recorded antisocial behaviour. Lower recorded rates do not prove a town is safer: reporting, policing, visitor numbers and source coverage all affect the figures.

Eligibility, ordering and limitations

A population denominator of at least 5,000 residents.

Mapped Police.uk incidents are divided by the population denominator used in the crime dataset and multiplied by 1,000. That denominator can differ from the newer Census population shown in a town guide. The population threshold does not establish complete police reporting coverage.

National positions are retained when you search or filter. Equal underlying values share the same position, so ranks can repeat and skip. Display values are rounded; the ordering uses the stored precision.

Is this a list of the safest towns?

No. These are recorded incident rates, not a safety score. Town-wide figures also hide differences between streets and neighbourhoods. Read the categories and limitations in each town guide and use local information for the address you are considering.
